Univerre supports Team Courbon for the Jacques Vabre Transat

It was a day like any other, the sun and clouds were playing at the one that would be most visible on that autumn afternoon, while I was waiting for my appointment with the skipper we were going to follow during the next race Jacques Vabre 2019. Not knowing him, I didn’t know who I was dealing with, but I knew this man who was passionate about the sea and the sailing world.

Suddenly, busy with my daily activities, like a ray of sunshine Renaud Courbon came to light up our offices with his smile, his good humour and his passion that he was going to describe to us.

During this pleasant moment, driven by his positivity and enthusiasm, with my colleague we discovered a family history, first of all, then a project tinged with solidarity, sharing, combativeness and commitment to a noble cause, such as supporting the association “A chacun son Everest”.

Renaud Courbon and his brother Yves will compete in the Class 40 category of the legendary transatlantic race from Le Havre, our Normandy town, with the help of the last of the brothers, Gilles. All three of them immersed since their tender childhoods in this common and family passion, by the father first and then by the mother of these three children. Because it was she who initiated this flame in the hearts of these young boys born in Plérin, Brittany.

Very quickly, all three sailed on the sleeve, Yves, the eldest has participated twice in the prestigious Solitaire du figaro alongside the biggest names. Renaud is a specialist in offshore racing, from the mythical Fastnet race to the English RORC championship. Gilles shares his passion with the young people of the Le Havre sailing club.

Renaud explained that this competition is an opportunity to promote the values of the association “A chacun son Everest”. This association supports children with cancer or leukaemia and women in remission from breast cancer, to help them face the delicate post-cancer phase and so that they can regain confidence, joy of life and a new impetus in life. It is also an opportunity for Yves and Renaud to invite a young member of the association to their boat.

It is therefore with great joy and pride that Univerre and its team will support the “Team Courbon” in this magnificent journey to Salvador de Bahia in Brazil. We will be there to follow and support this superb project, which is full of colour and noble values. Of course, Renaud assured us, they are aiming for the top 10 in their category and we are sure that this will be the case.
